Bambara , Freire, An Analysis to Theory March 2013 The Lessons is written by Toni Sabine Bambara and is also a fictional narrative. The significance of the short account is strengthened when we apply Paulo Freire’s story Pedagogy of the Oppressed because he talks about the different types of teaching methods that correspond with the personas in The Lessons and the society that they reside in. In Freire’s story he deliberates regarding the contemporary society we live in, which uses the banking method as opposed to the problem appearing method of instructing.

I believe that this is what Miss. Moore is trying to show her students in The Lessons by taking these to the ‘rich’ part of area when they type in the toyshop. In Freire’s account he offers two terms: the oppressor, which in my opinion is the white-colored people inside the Lesson plus the oppressed which can be Sylvia and her classmates. In The Lesson, you meet a young girl who passes the name of Sylvia. Sylvia is definitely brought up in a ‘slum’ region and is exacerbated towards her teacher, Miss Moore.

Sylvia feels that her tutor is better than everybody else in her community mainly because she has a college degree, and doesn’t care to listen to anything at all Miss. Moore has to say. The story starts off by Miss Moore using the group of children to this toyshop, which is where I believe she actually is trying to uncover them to this banking program concept, to show them what is wrong using their society. The banking program concept can be when “the teacher discusses reality like it were motionless, static, compartmentalized, and predictable.

They have always been “inside (Freire 55). Once Sylvia and her classmates get to this toyshop they recognize a plaything sailboat that catches all of them off guard, but it can not the sailboat, is it doesn’t price tag that may be attached to it, Sylvia exclaims “Who happen to be these people that spend very much for preforming clowns and $1000 intended for toy sailboats?
