Some consider his short narrative, A Farwell to Arms to become reflection on his life throughout the war. Tolstoy uses various themes, including love, faith, war and death in order to turn this kind of story in a modern misfortune for the earth to see. Several older authors of materials believe an absolute tragedy can only depict individuals with power and high position. As decades past, the modern writer’s perception that misfortune may also reflect ordinary people in domestic surrounding came to life in stories such as Henrik Ibsen “A Plaything House.

Henry, whose emotions to woman have dulled, can be rekindled with all the emergence of Catherine. “I had cared for seeing Catherine very casually, I had obtained somewhat drunk and had nearly forgotten to come but when I could not really see her there I had been feeling depressed and empty.  (41) Henry is definitely describing his first intimation that his feelings to get Catherine Barkley are more significant than this individual has previously felt to get other women.
