The initially major difference I noticed was in the level of details. The new seemed to be far more descriptive than the film. The film basically focused on the relationships between your characters which usually left out most of the novels thorough plot. The part of the novels detail that was left out of the film was the characters. There are characters discussed in the new that were not included in the film.
