The National Artist Merit is one of the esteemed awards given to people who are considered as national designers for their contribution in the distinct field of arts. Among the list of seven awardees of this year’s National Musician are; Manuel Urbano a.. a Manuel Conde to get Film and Broadcast, Lazaro Francisco pertaining to Literature, Federico Aguilar Alcuz for Visible Arts, Piece of art, Sculpture and Mixed Multimedia, Cecilla Guidote-Alvarez for Cinema, Magno Jose “Carlo Caparas for Visible Arts and Film, Francisco Manosa to get Architecture, and Jose “Pitoy Moreno to get Fashion Design.
A pair of the eight awardees had been questioned by the critics and the auto industry namely Cecilla Guidote-Alvarez and Magno Jose “Carlo Caparas.
The selection of both awardees was tainted simply by politics which the critics protested and demanded for further analysis on Chief executive Arroyo’s choice.
To consider that Cecillia Guidote- Alvares is a executive director of the Nationwide Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and supervises the honor together with the Ethnical Center of the Philippines (CCP). It is very tiring to hear that all the things that happen to be happening about us happen to be tainted simply by politics. Whatever we see and what we listen to always offers us doubt and we think it is hard to think, for we cannot notify who is telling the truth. Giving acknowledgement to the Filipino artists is actually a tribute for contribution for the Filipino disciplines and culture. What makes it more fulfilling is to know that you are not acknowledged for your achievements; rather you are recognized for the things you did as well as for what you led. And that makes it worth the award.
