Inside the final scene of the film Crimes and Misdemeanors, In my opinion the imaginary philosopher Louse Levy’s message was very similar to philosophy Jean-Paul Sartre fantastic theory in existentialism. Certainly one of Sartre’s quotes, “Man is nothing else but that which he makes of himself. ” Levy is trying to convey we are in charge of our options and we select our own pleasure.

In the last scene from the film Garnishment states, “We’re all experienced throughout our lives with making conscience moral decisions. Many are on a grander scale than others, nevertheless we specify ourselves by the choices we have made. We could, in fact , the sum total of our choices. ” So the moment Levy’s personality states, “most human beings manage to have the ability to continue to keep trying and locate joy via simple things”, this is depending on our options.

We decide to be completely happy or miserable. Because we as humans have the ability to think rationally or ill-rationally, each of our minds have capacity to think emotions, to dream up, or cognitively entertain, a mind-based reality of happiness. One of the survival strategies as people is each of our ability to shoot for happiness; as soon as a level of happiness is achieved there is always a need to get more; it is a never ending pursuit of delight. Our delight should also be performed without pain. Ever though we strive for this kind of happiness there is not any methodical way to obtain happiness or does the perception of delight always become achieved.

In my opinion this standpoint is heavily reflected through the movie, Crimes and Misdemeanors. I think all the characters in the movie happen to be striving and hoping for pleasure but I think the only personality who truly achieves the greatest happiness would be Rabbi Bill. The role of GOODNESS in developing ethical principles and if the world would be valueless in the event that GOD didn’t exist is definitely displayed through this film. Rabbi Ben (Sam Waterston) leads a moral life throughout the film and this individual ends up blind, but he can dance with his daughter with a clear mind.

The irony about this character is usually he fails to see inside the real world however he features strong religious vision. His detachment coming from mundane worries, and focus on on what is real and meaningful – a life devoted to OUR GOD. The ideas that only simply by blinding one self to reality can one live a meaningful life dedicated to GOD.

The symbolism of blindness seems to have a connection to a blind galaxy indifferent to the sense of justice. In reality all of the religious characters in Crimes and Misdemeanors endure impaired perspective and are described wearing eyeglasses. This may stand for their inability to see the actual nature of reality as well as the understanding of authentic happiness. Personally i think all of the character types in this film reflect the viewpoint of hope plus the desire to achieve happiness pain free; it is just the options, consequences or motive with their actions that may be misguided.

All of us make consequentialist decisions concerning our actions to separate the morally from wrong that leads us to our ultimate goal of delight. But what establishes if an action is meaningful right or wrong? Stuart Mill’ theory on, “The Principle of Utility”, landscapes the consequences that arise in the action to look for the moral really worth of an actions; the best decisions result in very good consequences for the largest number of people. He also believes that happiness equivalent pleasure; the actions are morally directly to the degree that they generate lots of pleasure.

Other advocates like Immanuel Kant, who also takes a deontology approach for the intention or perhaps motive from the action. This individual believes our actions are morally correct only if we can apply these people universally. I find myself the character Lester (Alan Alda), displays the theories of Jean Paul Sartre and Friedrich Nietzsche.

He’s a prosperous television producer with a pompous attitude. His character requires charge of his very own destiny. This individual knows what he wishes and goes after that. His Can to Electricity is great and sets no limitations upon what they can achieve throughout this film.

There are a few characters in Criminal activity and Misdemeanor who strive for the expect of joy but flunk. The main figure, Judah Rosenthal (Martin Landau) this personality is a powerful ophthalmologist whom achieves initial happiness within a two 12 months affair which has a woman known as Dolores (Anjelicia Huston). The moment Dolores poises tell his wife of there affair his ethical structure is threaten he feels like his complete universe becomes meaningless. However by the end of the film Judah make peace with him self and finds that this individual commits a crime and gets away with it.

He could be only suggested as a factor to his own ethical consciousness. In reality, hope is definitely the worst of evils, since it prolongs the torments of man. FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE, Individual, All-too-Human The other character that falls in short supply of achieving happiness would be Clifford Stern (Wood Allen); this kind of character is known as a small-time film maker chosen by his brother-in-law Lester to produce a documentary about his life and work. Clifford dislikes Lester as well as his marriage to Lester’s sister Wendy (Joann Gleason). While recording this documented Cliff falls in love with Lester’s relate producer, Halley Reed (Mia Farrow).

Even so Cliff’s attempts to woo Halley fail and in the conclusion Wendy chooses to be with Lester. This gives proof that good doesn’t always grow over evil. The review by Halley after learning about Levy’s loss of life she says, “No matter how elaborate a philosophical program you workout, in the end it’s got to end up being incomplete. ” I believe it’s the selfish requires, constant change, as well as the wants of individuals that allow people to select right from wrong and very good from negative.

It is everything regarding wants above needs. I believe Halley didn’t initially desire Lester it had been his regular appeal to the things that she necessary which gave her satisfaction that won her above. Not the roses since she was allergic, nevertheless the caviar and his influence and power. I really believe that the universe is in fact unsociable. However , if you have no OUR GOD, there can be no objective standards of right and incorrect.

All our company is confronted with is “the simple valueless fact of existence” (Jean-Paul Sartre). This is probably what Rabbi Bill meant through the film when he said, “Without the law, it’s all darkness, and, “You Judah see the world since harsh and empty of worth and pitiless. ” Rabbi Ben states, how he couldn’t not exist with no moral structure-with real meaning-with forgiveness plus some kind of bigger power. As well during the climax of the film Judah concludes that “GOD is a luxurious that this individual can’t afford” and arranges for Dolores-mistress (Angelica Houston) to be murdered.

Afterwards, within a state of despair this individual visits his childhood house and recreates in his mind a Passover Seder via his children. Judah’s atheist Aunt Might (Anna Berger) and spiritual father Sol, is an exploration of the relationship between morality and GOODNESS and the problem of morality in a godless universe. Great aunt May takes the position in the atheist and moral relativist in the making sure debate while she anticipate a vicious and godless world without objectives specifications of good and evil and no moral uses behind man reality. Aunt May believes individuals warrant their actions as they would like: “For those who want morality there’s values.

Nothings passed down in stone. ” Aunt May states that in a world where everything can be permissible, there may be nothing to quit an individual by committing murder other than their particular conscience. “And I say, in the event that he can take action, and go away with that, and decides not end up being bothered by ethics, in that case he’s home free. ” We live in a galaxy where the moral integrity between right and wrong are greatly unbalanced. A world where the good go through, the bad be successful and no better power will ever rectify this which is a miserable consequence. It is definitely hard to ascertain a basic moral or moral system pertaining to human beings because we are thus indifferent of each and every other.

We have for example the Holy bible or the Koran, but , just like Aunt May state in the film, “For those who want morality there’s morality. ” [Also in the final scene of the film Judah draws High cliff into a allegedly hypothetical conversation that draws upon his morals. Judah says that with time, virtually any crisis will pass; but Cliff morosely claims rather that one is usually forever fated to bear types burdens for “crimes and misdemeanors”] Wikipedia. We all battle daily for proper rights.

All we are able to do as human beings is to hope for happiness try to employ our own ethical ideas and meaningful principles to once again hopeful influence our lives and to reflect after future decades. “The Diary of Religion and Popular Traditions. ” The Journal of faith and Well-known Culture.
