Being a Very good Person, Baseball catchers in The Rye, Holden Caulfield

In The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, the primary character, Holden Caulfield displays his your life struggles between being a phony and a great person. The story begins the moment Holden can be watching the football video game from the top of the hill by his high school, Pencey Prepare. Just like other schools Holden has went to, he is getting kicked away because he is usually failing several of his subjects. Holden is at a consistent battle with himself and his persona and often identifies himself while sad and depressed. Holden is so crucial of phonies throughout the novel but is definitely nothing but a phony him self, which shows hypocrisy and several important things about his persona. He will not live up to the criteria he provides for others and is not as perfect as he wants to be.

To begin with, Holden is crucial of many things, but they trigger him to contradict him self and become a hypocrite. He could be very essential of the high school he goes toward, Pencey and in addition of the phonies that are there. He talks about the advertising shown in gossip columns about Pencey and says, They advertise in of a thousand journals, always exhibiting some hot-shot guy on the horse jumping over a wall. Like like all you ever before did in Pencey was play bordo all the time (Salinger 2). Almost everything about the stereotypes of students for Pencey bothers Holden, and he is important of them because he feels like they are all phonies trying way too hard to be better than everyone else. Holden is also essential of the difference between what appears around the surface and what seriously exists. Among the people Holden thinks is a perfect example of this kind of discrepancy is his roomie, Stradlater. Holden says, Come on, man he was generally a Year Publication kind of attractive guy (Salinger 27). Holden thinks that Stradlater seems to be what everyone thinks he’s but actually he isnt any better than the rest of the boys at Pencey. Holden is crucial of the way society and everyone else around him acts and assumes that the actual see is exactly what they get. However , when Holden is busy producing judgments regarding others, this individual quickly places himself in the same category as those he dislikes. These things he could be critical of revel hypocrisy along with the sort of person Holden is plus the characteristics that he acquires.

Gradually through the entire story, Holden talks about his childhood friend Jane “” who brings about the best in Holdens figure. Jane gives Holden back in his the child years and he is very safety of things he cares about. As Holden begins thinking of Jane again, he recalls a time in the movies after they were keeping hands. As he begins considering his feelings changes and he says, You never also worried, with Jane, if your hand was sweaty or not. Everything you knew was, you had been happy. You truly were. (Salinger ). Holden constantly locates himself contemplating Jane and exactly how happy the lady made him when they were children. He could be still keeping the relationship that they shared although growing up because of just how much he recognized about her and all the time they spent together. Holden continues to talk about Jane and everything they share as he says, She was the only 1, outside my family, that I ever showed Allies baseball mitt to, with all the poems created on it (Salinger 77). Holden trusts Anne so much that he is happy to open up with her and share something important to him. This reveals a more caring side of Holdens character because of just how he is opening to Her. Holdens marriage with Anne brings him back to as being a kid once again and shows a area of Holden no one has ever seen before.

In the end, Holden is not as perfect as he would like to be which is challenged with some psychological concerns. From the definition given by Holdens former college professor, Mister. Antolini, Holden is premature because he is always lying to people about points in his your life and lying is a indication of immaturity. Holden is his accommodation after going out of Pencey which is with a prostitute but will not want to have sexual with her. He explains, She helped me feel therefore nervous, I recently kept on resting my head away. Im continue to recuperating, I told her (Salinger 97). Since Holden starts getting anxious and feeling depressed, he feels the need to lie to her. He explains to her he has just had an operation performed and will not want to have sexual intercourse but will nonetheless pay her for arriving. Holdens lying down continues to show immaturity and makes him just as much a artificial as other people this individual knows. Likewise, while Holden is on the subway a mother of a former classmate he had sits next to him. Mrs. Marrow was her name, and the lady beings talking to Holden regarding her boy Ernest and the plans to get winder break. Holden explains to her, Not any, everybodys great at home, I actually said. The me, Need to have this procedure (Salinger 58). Holden is placed so much that what he can saying to Mrs. Marrow doesnt even seem like a big deal to him. His immaturity and lying will be such regular habits to get him and they are both things that are triggering him never to be while perfect as this individual wants to become.

In conclusion, Holden struggles while using burden of his psychological challenges to get through his depressing years at Pencey Prep and keep a good persona. At first, his childhood remembrances are the only thing bringing out the good in Holden. Then again, Holden is critical of the phonies and liars around him. Finally, this kind of shows hypocrisy when he is situated his method through a volume of things throughout the story and does not live up to the best way he desires to be. Ultimately, Holden is placed in a snooze home to help him cope with his mental problems and hopefully support his character and plans.
