Tan has used dull shades to show the gloominess of her situation. She appears small and unimportant. The fish can be a mark for how she is sense with its downturned face and mouth; but it looks as though it has tears running from the eyes. In the picture we have a single crimson leaf in the gutter, a reoccurring design in every photo, which symbolises hope. In ‘The Reddish colored Tree’ thinking about time exists with the reoccurring motif of the red leaf.
At the start in the book that doesn’t pay attention to the leaf, towards end in the book the limited girl starts to notice it and an endearing smile begins to demonstrate on her encounter. This is accustomed to represent towards the reader that this takes time for the good end result to occur, that time be an important factor in someone’s life. The application of ‘and wait’ represents the fact that persona is just waiting for something to happen.
