Since every teen becomes old they search for their own identity, which is essential for their personal development. In the book, The Heurter in the Rye the author JD Salinger explores this issue. The Catcher inside the Rye is known as a story in regards to a anxious teen named Holden Caufield who is struggling to find his identity and is also pressured with many teenage concerns such as the urge to rebel and has trouble closing friendship’s. Holden Caufield notify his story in first-person in a dispersed form of stream of mind, which usually takes the reader through his ambitious and unstructured life.

Through Holden’s diverse activities, the author is exploring the issues of relationships, personality and child years and how difficult it is for a few people to comfortably fit into culture. It is evident in Holden unpredictable behavior towards adults that this individual has a trouble establishing sturdy relationships to people. There are lots of times inside the novel were Holden features striked up conversation with random people merely because he is depressed and does not have other associations with anyone else.

Holden feels as if he has to rest to keep his conversations induced.

This causes his relationships with other individuals to be unstable and revolved around a “fake person. A good example of this is when Holden meets Ernest’s mother, Mrs. Morrow within the train. “Then I really began shooting the old crap about (pg48) Holden does not speak the truth to Mrs. Morrow once in there hole discussion but yet continue to wants to maintain your conversation occurring longer. “C’mon join me, you could start to? I loved having her (pg 51) This quotation symbolizes the way the author JD Salinger provides identified towards the reader that Holden can be struggling with his own id and because with this he is planning to be someone that he is not really.

This is triggering him to experience a great deal of trouble having a solid relationship with other people. Through the novel, Holden claims to value personality and rejects everyone else around him as they believes that they can be “phony.  Holden is consistently putting every one down about him. This particularly apparent when Holden is at his former university, Pency. All Holden’s “so called close friends he provides at Pency are looked like there was fake and phony once really Holden is not being his the case self.

This individual also was sort of a nasty guy, I wasn’t as well crazy about him, to tell you the truth (pg17) these quotes show that Holden is usually two confronted and this individual rejects any individual with generally there own personal thoughts and opinions. JD Salinger has made Holden out to be considered a hypocrite as he disrespects any individual with right now there own identity but yet would not have virtually any personal identification at all. Holden is very materialistic and thinks money is known as a way out of any problem. Through Holden’s individuality he is searching for his put in place society, whether it is through college at Pency or in New York

Over the novel, Holden always retreats to his childhood as being a coping system for what is actually happening in the real world. Holden values childhood throughout the book, as it was the sole time in his life was he believed secure. Holden’s childhood is the most important theme in the novel since it is the only portion were someone can understand Holden and feel a sense of pity to get him. Holden childhood was the only place were he was his the case self with the help of Phoebe, his young sister by which he admires and is the only person they can be his true personal around.

I truly wanted to see old Phoebe before I hit the road (pg 184) This kind of quote demonstrates Holden actually cares about Phoebe, as she actually is the last person he wished to see. Phoebe is the simply thing that reminds him of his childhood plus the innocence of it, which then comforts him. Total Holden beliefs childhood one of the most as he can be reminded from the true Holden, not the Holden that is certainly trying to increase up in a materialistic and pretend world. The child years is the simply thing that Holden can escape to when he is having trouble fitting in to contemporary society.
