Important race theory is something that Siegel tacitly works with, however the author does not mention that in Unequal Encounters. As Peller highlights, critical competition theory helped to define different points of views in the American civil privileges movement. Black nationalism was pitted up against the more romantic notion the fact that United States can indeed turn into a nation
