Jon O, as the youngster with Downs Syndrome is called, is the main character of this childrens book. His parents, littermates, schoolmates, and friends were the other characters that made up the storyline. The story quickly sums up what Jon O is a lot like and for what reason he is a special boy.

Jon O was categorized while retarded by the family doctor before he was even born, and the book described him as a special kid that got many dissimilarities from each of the normal persons around him. Elaine Ominsky made very clear all of the children’s differences and made every accomplishment out to be nothing less than a wonder. Thing of pity, His Mommy and Dad cried! These people were very unfortunate that all their baby was different. This place was noticed in the initially paragraph in the book. There was clearly one part that can be seen as object of pity, thing of charity/burden, and a subhuman portrayal. This component was discussing Jon O in the classroom placing, Sometimes the children ask her, the tutor Why does this individual Jon O act so funny? How come he totally different from us? The teacher tells them, Jon O contains a special problem. He will not really grow the way most children carry out. He will be unable to learn the way most youngsters do. He can retarded. This kind of shocked me personally, what a huge thing, to think, to say. How come would it be so hard to talk about Well children, Jon U isnt several he only has differences. Isnt hair, eyes, clothes, etc . totally different from other people? Differences happen to be what produce us exceptional and great people. So why couldnt the teacher declare something of these nature to never set him apart?

One other section that fell below that category was about his interactions along with his brothers, which usually seem usual until Ominsky sets him apart. Although sometimes his brothers acquire angry with Jon U. He cannot do everything they can perform. They forget Jon To is different. Very good! Great! Why is it that he isnt several, why can’t he be considered a brother competent of being among the boys and become difficult, omitted, included, and. Then it proceeds, Jon O never does not remember he is diverse. Sometimes he is unhappy as they cannot all the things that people wish him to do. And why cant he? Who advised him this individual could not?

These negative roles had been interspersed with a of the 6 values. There have been positive efforts that Jon O was portrayed while making. This individual helps tidy up after the skill lessonhelps his brothers create a forthis mother set the tablehis correct the crête buggy. He also displays inherent talents, Jon To will keep tryingHes lots of fun. There are also a large number of relationships that are positive he plays together with his schoolmates, close friends, and siblings. Jon To also has a proper relationship with his teacher and parents.

I think kids would realize that this child was exceptional, but likewise different which does not need to end up being the case. He is constantly considered different and Im unsure that that term is advantageous for a confident portrayal, as it was under no circumstances said in the book that staying different was good and even okay. The book reminded me of my cousin Captain christopher and made me personally glad that no one substituted his name intended for Jon Operating-system. I appreciated the publication for its strive and the images, but the meaning was confusing at times intended for the meant age level. I would recommend it to various other students in EDU 370.
