Environmental Protection

In the field findings and services with neighborhood communities, a number of issues and challenges have been observed intended for the lasting management of SNNP watershed/sub-watersheds. Some of the crucial issues and challenges which were observed and tracked during field study and consultations with local people are as follows:

Issues

  • Pressure on forests of SNNP watershed is growing as a result of increasing demand of firewood for regional consumptions, preparing local alcohol and hitch for domestic cattle.
  • Occurrence of dry time forest fire is common in SNNP watersheds due to increasing demand of fresh grass for livestock forage
  • Change of little grasslands and shrub land of SNNP watersheds into agriculture terrain for enhancing livelihoods of the local neighborhoods.
  • Increasing trends of soil chafing and landslides within the SNNP watersheds happen to be observed because of poorly designed foot paths, absence of adequate drainages, incorrect management of rainfall runoff and poor farming practices in the outward sloping cultivation lands.
  • Excessive cost-free grazing on view forest, plant lands and grasslands.
  • Occurrence of invasive kinds in the grassland, agriculture terrain and wetland due to overgrazing and air pollution of drinking water.
  • Improving the process of disappearance of water sources in the upstream of the watersheds as a result of abuse of water options and devastation of vegetation near the water sources
  • Limited training and awareness towards the communities in consequences of watershed destruction and need for sustainable managing of SNNP watersheds.
  • Pollution of rivers and streams because of free convenience of home-based wastes and increasing use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides in the harvest land of SNNP watersheds.
  • Subsistence farming practice and high food deficiency in and around the settlements inside the SNNP watersheds particularly in Okhareni, Mulkarka, Kunegaon and Chilaune
  • Raising use of foodstuff grains and fire solid wood for the preparation of local alcohol particularly in Okhareni, Mulkarka, Kunegaon and Chilaune
  • Limited promotion of different energy systems and potential use of existing energy sources to lower forest habbit
  • Poor public health and cleanliness in instant surrounding funds of the park
  • Inadequate drinking water facility and sanitation, and lack of awareness on safe drinking water
  • Insufficient income making programs centering on women, junior and little farmers
  • Vulnerability of plant species because of climate modify induced disasters such as drought, cloud bursts, declining types of water and soil wetness

Upcoming strategies of Govt for preservation of Sundarijal watershed

Actions: Under the Results of each End result, following concours under garden soil conservation and watershed supervision are to be advertised and integrated in the SNNP watersheds/sub-watersheds:
