Within a world that is certainly marked by homogeneity, capitalism has beneficial conditions to grow. However changes in pondering and urban theory, rather than describing this concept in terms of production, it is now consumption that defines our times. We are living in a consumer contemporary society or a consumerist culture mainly because consumption hard drives production rather than it getting the other way around. People have now be liberal in how they live their lives. There are simply no specific rules to follow and changing lifestyles mean everybody would want different things. This results in increased selection and widened range of services and goods at someones disposal. Incorporate this with more disposable income and you have consumerism on hands. People are no more afraid to live their wish lives which often means fewer savings. Strangely enough, consumers are certainly not worried about that. It appears as though the worries that drove people to preserve in the modernist world have been substituted by a impression of unparalleled freedom. This freedom translates into freedom of choice, increased demand for sophisticated merchandise, and more touring and less savings. But the dwellers of a postmodern city usually do not really have a problem with that. They are happy having the ability to spend as and when they wish. They have higher incomes than they had ever before, greater entry to credit, which was unheard of in modernist era and a great insatiable hunger for entertainment.
