Through this both center wrenching and slightly funny memoir, correspondent Jeannette Walls tells the bittersweet history of her rather dysfunctional and low income stricken parental input. Walls grows up in a family trailed by ubiquitous existence of being hungry and busted homes. Through the entire memoir the girl recounts thoughts of moving from one dilapidated neighborhood to a different with her three other siblings, insanely free sprinted mother, and incredibly intelligent yet alcoholic dad. The author is targeted on her non-traditional childhood with parents who were too laid back and engage to obtain respectable jobs. Though Wallss the child years gushes with heartbreaking stories of looking through dumpsters for meals, she remains as unbitter as possible and instead views her youth within an almost humorous light.
While most in similar scenarios observe encounters like these through unforgiving sight, Walls landscapes her sad experiences throughout the transparent wall surfaces of the glass castle and recalls just how she builds up the strength and determination to achieve success. Although her parents set her through very difficult experience, she deals with to optimistically accept her past and create a greater future to get herself.
Wall space consumes the memoir with depictions of her parents eccentric raising a child styles. While not a drunk like her father the girl describes her mother because possessing the mentality of any four yr old while at the same time getting incredibly advanced intellectually. Inspite of her intelligence, her mom sits about and wristwatches Jeannettes dad squander their money on ale and smokes while she tries to develop her invisible artistic skills. Even with a teaching level she will not get a job until begged for this by her starving kids.
.. so she resolves to overcome her troubled upbringing and turn her life into a success.
Although The Glass Fortress proves quite an infuriating go through, the creators optimism and naivety make the memoir somewhat refreshing. Wall space faces so many unfortunate conditions and yet even now somehow keeps a positive outlook on life. Many whom go through related situations work with their below underprivileged upbringings as standard excuses for for what reason they stay unable to get adequate careers or successful lives, yet Walls avoids this entirely.
Although her years as a child proves somewhat rough, she realizes this does not prevent her from obtaining her goals. While her life story serves as no fairy tale, the girl manages to look for her happily-ever after through unrelenting beliefs and perseverance.
