The German Film Festivity was founded in 2000 simply by Antonio Zeccola who, in one of Australia’s many migrant success stories, built Australia’s only national specialist cinema network, which at this point encompasses more than one hundred displays nationally. Eighteen years ago, Antonio realised that Australia acquired other film festivals but nothing dedicated to Italian cinema, and an idea was developed. In The fall of 2000 in Sydney and Melbourne, the first copy presented 11 features, five retrospective games and five shorts, including Opening Nighttime selection Loaf of bread and Tulip glasses (Pane at the Tulipani) by Silvio Soldini and Hundred Steps (I cento passi) directed by Marco Tullio Giordana.
The event was a resounding accomplishment. Spurred simply by audience demand, the second Italian language Film Festivity expanded country wide in 2001 to Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, with the Opening Nighttime selection Malena starring Monica Bellucci, the Centrepiece The Son’s Area (La stanza del figlio) directed simply by Nanni Moretti and Closing Night Assortment The Last Kiss (L’ultimo bacio) directed by simply Gabriele Muccino. Since then the festival is growing and produced in reputation, to the point where it is currently the biggest general public celebration of Italian theatre outside Italy. Organised entirely by Structure, a 100% Australian-owned impartial family organization, the festivity continues to present new modern-day Italian theatre and appreciated classics for the big screen.
For almost two decades the Event has celebrated Italian language, traditions and la dolce vita with a great ever-growing audience, last year attracting 86, five-hundred people country wide. The screening was framed which has a festa of Italian culinary arts delights, think samples of almost everything delicious that Italian food has to offer, and a pre-part with live music while using band Soulganic and a great afterparty with mozzarella testing’s, doici by simply Gigi and Italian music by DJ Sveta. The Italian Film Festival will certainly continue in different Australian spots until March 25.
